This long Carnival SXM videos is one of the best examples of 2nd Day Parade in St Maarten, when it’ more about having a good time than about having the choreography and costumes ‘graded’. The live band is No Limit Band from the Bush Road district. They have a very unique, distinct raw sound that is very popular with some. The No Limit Band is one of the tougher bands to video record during Jouvert and 2nd Day, because their ‘people’ the dancers can get really wild and frenzied, especially during Jouvert. Big Foot is the leader of the No Limit band. Although every Carnival season you see new faces on the truck, the veterans are usually there every year also.
Sometimes they branch off and form their own ‘thing’.
In the above video, I captured Jasmin Philips “Survivor SXM” troup as they made their way down Fronstreet, Philipsburg St Maarten, for the 2nd day parade.
Thousands of people book flights to St Maarten just for carnival, and many stay at Fronstreet hotels, so that they can lean over their balcony and catch all the action, without being a part of it.
The video covers Survivor dancers, dancing to The No Limit Band Live from Frontstreet to the Pondfill, where they then head into the village.
Shooting the videos are not as easy as it looks, there are breaks and pauses in between, so I do work on getting the ‘action shots’.
Some of the bands and the troupes are consistent about coming out each year, and giving 100%, and those are the bands and troups that get the most coverage on Youtube.
The dancers are Mariska, Melissa, Carinne, Lady Gaga and a few others.
Every year these ladies come out, and put on a show- they have their own fans and following who come out to see and support them every year.
Some people love it so much, that they actually contact Jasmin, register and take part in the festivities.
Anyone interested in joining the Survivor Troup this year needs to contact Jasmin Philips on Facebook, or call her at 721 581 2100
